The city accounts of 1455-1456 mention the order of a lathoenen mannekin from a copper foundry from Brussels. This order was made on the occasion of the reconstruction of the city and the repair of the fountains and the water supply. The city was destroyed on 16 April 1452 by the troops of Jean de Croy. In 1452, the people of Ghent stole the lion that stood as a fountain decoration on top of the fountain above the Brugstraat (1400). The aldermen decided to replace the lioning with a watering manneken. Gilles Van der Gucht chiseled the model in wood, Reinier van Thienen, a Brussels copper foundry, made it. In 1459 it was placed on the fountain, which was demolished in 1835. The manneken now stands under the façade of the town hall and is indisputably the oldest in the country, so also older than the Brussels pee that is only from 1619. In the Manneke Pis Museum you will find a lot of information about the doings of Manneke Pis
