Statue of poet Prudens Van Duyse (Dendermonde 1804 – Ghent 1859). Founded in 1893 on the initiative of the Dendermonde city council, after a design by sculptor Godfried Devreese and architect Victor Horta. In 1927 the statue was moved to the Frans Courtensstraat as a result of an elevation of the Vlasmarkt, and Fernand de Ruddere, city architect of Dendermonde, also added a new element to the pedestal. The statue was re-erected in 1994 on its original site, the pedestal was restored to its original state and provided with a wrought iron closure inspired by the original design.
