Holstone

The Holsteen is a collection of 8 giant sandstones. On the one hand, the stones themselves are a unique geological phenomenon. On the other hand, one of the stones bears prehistoric polishing marks. However, this stone is further back with a wooden fence around it. Archaeological research has shown that prehistoric hunters came from the Mesolithic era (ca. 6,000 BC) to the Bronze Age (ca. 700 BC) to polish their stone tools on this stone. The Holsteen is the only solid polishing stone in Flanders.
