The Dender

Junction 29 finally brings us to the Dender which we follow along the towpath to Aalst. You can also first relax on a bench at the old lock bridge of Wieze, immediately across the Dender bridge at junction 30. This is the starting point for a walk through the natural area of Hogedonk.
The mill stream flowed into the Dender in Gijzegem for a while, before a new branch was made in Hofstade that you will soon cycle past. At Hofstade village (a few meters), you will find the café In De Molen). You make a small detour around some industrial buildings, to reach the Dender again, at the turning basin, at the new mouth of the mill stream. Attention: the stream flows under the street here. The name is indicated on the bridge directly opposite the Hendrik Conciencestraat. A little further are the buildings of the Jan De Nul company and the bicycle junction 28 where you cycle straight ahead towards Aalst center.
