It is no coincidence that this moated castle is located in this corner of Oetingen, part of Gooik: hainaut, Flanders and Brabant touched each other here. The road along which it is well located was a branch of the Roman track and is still called Heerbaan. The water castle, largely in brick with a stone bridge as access, was the castle of the lords of Heetvelde and was built in the 17thcentury on the remains of much older buildings. A moat, some loopholes and the keep give the whole a military touch. Monument and landscape are protected.
