The cemetery was initially named 'Ouderdom Military Cemetery', but later the name was changed to Grootebeek British Cemetery after the Grotebeek or Groote Kemmelbeek that flows beside it. There are 109 dead from the First World War and 2 from the Second World War buried in this cemetery.
