Nukerke is a nucleus of the municipality of Maarkedal in the province of East Flanders in the Flemish region of Belgium in the rugged region known as the Flemish Ardennes. On January 1, 1978, it merged with Maarkedal. It has about 2150 inhabitants for an area of 1194 hectares. The first mention of the pobble Nova Ecclesia dates from 1116. The village belonged to the Archdiocese of Cambrai, later to the Archdiocese of Mechelen and now to the Bishopric of Ghent.
