Zonnegem is a village in the municipality of Sint-Lievens-Houtem, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The village is located in the Dender region. The patronage of the church was in the possession of the Abbey of Drongen. It was not until after 1836 that a parish priest appointed by the bishop was appointed. In 1817 Zonnegem became an independent municipality. For a long time, Zonnegem was focused on agriculture and flax processing, spinning and weaving were also the traditional activities. A ready-to-wear workshop and a beer brewery were the only industrial activities. After the Second World War, many people went to work as commuters in Brussels or Aalst.
