Kanegem is, like Aarsele and Schuiferskapelle, a part of the Flemish town of Tielt. It is located in West Flanders, the most western province of Belgium. It is a rural municipality, like many others in this region. This small municipality is also home to people like Godfried Cardinal Danneels, currently the only Belgian cardinal, the painter and author August Vandekerkhove, and Briek Schotte, the famous Flemish cyclist who had his glory years in the 1940s and 1950s. A monument has been dedicated to the latter near the church in Kanegem. This neo-baroque church was built according to the plans of Frans Van den Heuvel. The west tower was designed by Eugeen Coopman in 1897-1898.
Kanegem covers 1084 hectares and had 1181 inhabitants as of January 1, 2006. Kanegem is also referred to as Flower Village or Green Village.
