Kanegem è, proprio come Aarsele e Schuiferskapelle, una frazione della città fiamminga di Tielt. Si trova nel Brabante Fiammingo, la provincia più occidentale del Belgio. È un comune rurale, come molti altri in queste regioni. Da questo piccolo comune provengono anche persone come Godfried Cardinale Danneels, attualmente l'unico cardinale belga, il pittore e autore August Vandekerkhove e Briek Schotte, il famoso ciclista fiammingo che ha conosciuto i suoi anni di gloria negli anni quaranta e cinquanta. A quest'ultimo è dedicato un monumento vicino alla chiesa di Kanegem. Questa chiesa neobarocca è stata costruita secondo i progetti di Frans Van den Heuvel. Il campanile occidentale è stato progettato da Eugeen Coopman nel 1897-1898.
Kanegem è grande 1084 ha e contava il 1 gennaio 2006, 1181 abitanti. Kanegem è anche chiamato Villaggio dei Fiori o Villaggio Verde.
