Webbekom is a part of the municipality of Diest. Webbekom was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1970.Early on, Webbekom, together with Zelem, Schaffen, Linkhout, Donk and Halen, belonged to the abbey of Sint-Truiden. The parish of Webbekom was founded around 800, and also included the "chapel" of Assent until the end of the 18th century.
