Where the Trevi Business Center is now, there used to be the sinking factory of ARBED. Here, steel wires were galvanized. The steel wires were drawn through a heated bath of zinc and lead. This production had to continue preferably continuously. Day and night. Because those baths were not allowed to cool down. It took three days for a cooled bath to be reheated. This heating took place centrally in the now beautifully restored steam house just west of this building. Occasionally, terrible industrial accidents occurred during maintenance. If such a zinc/lead bath cooled down, a crust formed that one could walk on. But if that crust was still insufficiently thick, one would sink through it, like through ice. The lead caused terrible injuries and damage, which usually led to amputation of a foot or leg. There were also occasionally leaks from such a bath. A solution of zinc and lead is a highly toxic combination for the environment. They were also dealing with a highly contaminated soil that needed to be cleaned up.
