National Basilica of the Sacred Heart

The National Basilica of the Sacred Heart, also known as the Basilica of Koekelberg, is a church on the border of Koekelberg and Ganshoren. The basilica was built in several phases between 1905 and 1970. It can be considered the masterpiece of the Ghent architect Albert Van Huffel (1877-1935).

Since 1952, the church has held the title of "Basilica Minor"

The impressive church building was constructed in art deco style and remains one of the largest churches in Belgium and the world to this day.

On the "roof," there is a panoramic view over Brussels and the surrounding area.

The basilica is located at the end of Elisabeth Park, atop the hill of Koekelberg.
