This slate quarry, known as the quarry of Rodenem, is one of the first places (if you come from the north) where you will see primary rocks on the surface. This rock dates back to the Cambrian period and is a relic of an old quarry of the Rodenem district. The stone was used in many buildings in the region, such as the church of Lembeek, the Malakov tower, the former castle and the bridges over the canal. The rock was examined by geologists. It is an ancient massif that was formed 500 million years ago. Fossils have even been found that are about 520 million years old. The oldest geological description of this quarry dates back to 1847. The quarry already existed in 1730, but little is known about its first exploitation.
