Station Gent-Zuid was the terminus of the railway line 59 in the Belgian city of Ghent. The South Station was located at Koning Albertpark. It had an eastern main entrance at Graaf van Vlaanderenplein. The square to the north is the current Woodrow Wilsonplein. The South Station was the first station in the city, established in the Muinkmeersen, a pasture area of the monks of Saint Peter's Abbey. The station was opened on September 28, 1837, as a terminus for the Ghent - Mechelen railway line. The following year, the railway line was extended towards Ostend and Kortrijk. The first station building soon became too small and was demolished in 1848. The new station building was designed by Auguste Payen and was completed in 1850. It consisted of two separate buildings, connected by a glass roof, with the goods service on the west side and the passenger service on the east side.
