This concerns a precursor of the still existing Oude Molen or Tissenhovemolen in Mater, which thus has the oldest history of all still existing Flemish windmills! The mill was rebuilt several times (including in 1768) and was moved a few hundred meters in 1787 to its current location. Until the end of the Ancien Régime, the mill remained in the possession of the lords of Schorisse.
The current post mill dates from 1768. It was probably brought here from a lower-lying field in the northeast, about 350 meters from the current location. This mill is located 105 meters above sea level. During its relocation, a three-story structure was made. The mill appeared in the tax register of 1571 as the property of the baron of Schorisse.
Due to its exceptional location and panorama, with the towers of Ghent and Deinze visible to the naked eye, it was used by the Germans as a lookout point during the Second World War. On March 28, 1956, the mill was officially protected as a monument. The mill road, the cobblestone path De Jagerij, was protected as a monument on April 30, 2004. In 1975-76, the mill underwent extensive, mill-capable restoration. The nailed rods were then replaced by pestle rods. The belly on the wind shaft (added around 1928 for a third pair of stones) and the galley on the brake side (for the hexagonal belly) were "removed in restoration" in 1976. In early 2006, the rods were replaced with new oak pestle rods. The mill builders Wieme from Machelen (Zulte) also laid new oak slates on the cap and the wind shaft. The designer was ir.-arch. Sabine Okkerse from Horebeke. The works amounted to approximately €120,000. On August 12, 2006, the restored mill was festively inaugurated.
