Located 30 minutes from Liège and Brussels, on the site of the former Premonstratensian abbey of Heylissem founded in the early 12th century, the Provincial Domain, consisting of an 18th-century neoclassical castle and a 28ha park, includes a nature reserve, a giant sundial, a 19th-century ice house, three fishing ponds, tennis courts, a landscaped mini-golf, and two playgrounds. A bit of history... Founded in the 12th century, the buildings of the Premonstratensian abbey of Heylissem were looted, burned, and demolished several times but were always rebuilt. From the last buildings, erected between 1762 and 1780, the prelate's house, the church, the stables, the orangery, and the farm remain. The domain served alternately as a cotton fabric factory, a distillery that produced apple brandy, and a beet sugar refinery. The domain was acquired by the Province of Brabant in 1962. Today, the 18th-century neoclassical castle offers a prestigious infrastructure for seminars and receptions in an exceptional setting and remarkable greenery. The park of the castle of Hélécine is a haven of peace and a walking place throughout the year. The path along the two ponds reveals a magnificent landscape: geese, ducks, and swans; goats, fallow deer, and their young rest under the trees. Not a sound, occasionally disturbed by the flurry of fishing rods. At the end of the walk, the playground awaits your children for fun moments. Right next to it, the refreshment stand and its tables allow you to share this moment outdoors. For an hour or an entire day, the park of Hélécine allows you to enjoy moments of relaxation with family or friends. Barbecues are available by reservation.
