Initially located on Rue des Palais, the Institute moved to Chaussée de Haecht, at number 164, at the beginning of the twentieth century. For a long time reserved for boys, the school is now mixed. Also called the ISM, the Institute was renamed Centre scolaire Sainte-Marie La Sagesse. Today, it welcomes a public mainly from Turkish and Moroccan immigrants, who are very present in the district, and organizes general, technical and vocational education.
Association of alumni of the Institut Sainte-Marie founded in 1890 and incorporated as a non-profit association since 1959. The Cercle has its registered office at 164 Chaussée de Haecht in Schaerbeek. The purpose of the association is to provide its members with a centre for pleasant or useful relationships; to facilitate, through the award of scholarships, access to university and higher education for some of its members; to support its members materially and morally, as well as the works of the Institute or those created by the Circle. The association is administered by a board of not less than 10 members and not more than 17 members.
