Welcome to the Lintbos!
The Lintbos is a large and beautiful forest in Grimbergen. There used to be an airport here, but since 2001, they have started planting a new forest. That was very special, as it had been 100 years since such a large forest had been created in Flanders!
So far, 150,000 trees and shrubs have been planted. This is good for 55 hectares of forest – which is about the size of 100 soccer fields!
What can you see in the forest?
In the Lintbos, there are two long sight axes. These are straight lines where you can see far.
One sight axis points to the basilica of Grimbergen.
The other points to the church of Beigem.
There are also winding walking paths through the grass. Some paths are paved with dolomite, making it easy to use with a stroller, wheelchair, or bike. Along the path, there are even fruit trees!
Animals in the forest
Because the forest is so large, many animals live there. You can see birds of prey like falcons, sparrowhawks, and buzzards. Butterflies and insects also feel at home on the sunny edges of the forest.
