Bus House Cemetery is located 4 km south of the city center of Ypres, on Sint-Elooisweg, a road leading from Rijselseweg (the road to Armentières N365). From the center of Ypres, Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the intersection with the Ypres ring road. The road name then changes to Rijselseweg. 4 km along Rijselseweg, the road forks and directly from the right fork branches off Sint-Elooisweg (in fact, two immediate turns to the right). The cemetery is located 500 meters along Sint-Elooisweg on the left side of the road towards Voormezele. Historical information: This cemetery is behind a farm that was referred to as "Bushuis" by the troops during World War I. It was established in June-November 1917, but during the war, one grave from January 1915 was brought in and in April 1918 four more were added. The British Expeditionary Force was involved in the later stages of the defense of Belgium following the German invasion in May 1940 and suffered many casualties covering the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Some of them were killed during the battle on the Ypres-Comines canal and were originally buried where they died, but in 1941 their graves were brought in from locations scattered throughout the municipality for reburial in this cemetery. Bus House Cemetery contains 206 graves from World War I, of which 12 are unidentified, and 79 from World War II, of which nine are unidentified. The cemetery also has two French war graves. The cemetery was designed by W H Cowlishaw.
