TEXTURE tells about the linen and flax industry. A story with deep roots that reflects strong craftsmanship and entrepreneurship, daring innovation and adaptability, and a constant reinvention of itself. In three rooms, set up in an authentic flax shipping house (1912), you will discover the revolutionary development brought about by the flax industry in this region. The past will surprise you, but the stories of today and tomorrow will amaze and inspire you. For centuries, Flanders has been renowned for its textiles, and linen plays a shining role in that! In the past, luxury products such as lace and damask were highly sought after by the nobility and bourgeoisie. The basic linen that was mass-woven here was intended for everyday use. Along the banks of the Leie, an industry grew that conquered the world: flax processing. Even today, 'Courtrai flax' is a top-quality product that is internationally known and sought after.

THREE ROOMS, THREE STORIES

You use flax every day, often without realizing it and in unexpected places. Designers, scientists, and entrepreneurs leave no part unused. Discover, taste, feel, and test their products in the Wonder Room. The Leie Room tells the story of the flax and linen industry. It is one of ups and downs, of people who repeatedly find the resilience to overcome severe crises without external help. A fascinating history with thinkers, risk-takers, and doers in the lead role. Under the golden crown lies the Treasury Room. Here, it is especially enjoyable to experience the selection of beautiful damask, lace, handicrafts, and fine fabrics.
