Westfront Nieuwpoort now shows you the full story of the flooding of the polder plains during World War I, which halted the German invasion at Nieuwpoort. A story about the power of seawater and the clever directing of locks and sluices.
The perfect place to tell the story of the flooding is the King Albert I monument at the edge of the 'De Ganzepoot' lock complex. Under the monument, Nieuwpoort has established a contemporary and interactive visitor center. A highlight of the visit is certainly the projection of the resurrected Iron panorama, originally a painting 115 m long and 15 m high.
Also, don't forget to take the elevator to the top of the King Albert I monument itself to enjoy the panorama over the coast and the polders of West Flanders.
