Address: Pont de Polleur, 7A 4845 Jalhay
This old Roman bridge, whose exact date of construction is unknown and which crosses the Hoëgne, was located on the ancient Roman road from Trier to Tongres, called the "Iron Road." Built of limestone rubble, the deck of the bridge is constructed in a slight humpback, above two basket-arch spans. The Old Bridge of Polleur has been reconstructed twice because the years have worn it from very many crossings. It was restored in 1767 and in 1978. The builders ensured that its appearance was not changed; it has remained unchanged over time and has retained its architectural beauty. This structure is included on the list of Walloon heritage.
On either side of the parapets, there are two remarkable bronze works: a Christ, dated 1767, and the Virgin with Child. The latter was stolen in the 1990s and replaced by a work by Jacques Dubois. Furthermore, in the early 20th century, a humorous newspaper called "La pont de Polleur" was published in Verviers during election periods. This bridge is also the subject of a legend, which is the origin of the biennial Coucou festival.
