Botrange Nature Park Center

The Botrange Nature Park Center lies in the heart of the ‘Hautes-Fagnes’/Eifel nature reserve. Its infrastructure and its various activities blend in smoothly providing an extensive program for discovering the treasures that the park has to offer to visitors.Above all, the Center places emphasis on providing a so-called ‘peaceful form of tourism,’ i.e. a form of tourism that attaches great importance in retaining the special character of each of the areas being visited at any one time. In this way, the habitat of the native population is respected, and at the same time nature’s equilibrium is maintained.A comprehensive and varied program under the name “Education à l' environnement” (Environmental education) is offered to school-classes and groups of young people of all ages. Various different topics are covered in the form of games, educational walks or environmental and ecological studies. Learning by playing and discovering is the basic concept in all these programs.The permanent exhibition entitled “À la recherche des paysages perdus de l' Eurégio Meuse Rhin” (“In the search of the lost landscapes of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine”) describes the development of the Hautes-Fagnes landscape. In the geological element of the exhibition, the visitor is taken down a ‘time-tunnel’ to learn about the changes that occurred to the plateau caused by the continental drift over the course of the last 500 million years.Tours can be also organized with advance notice. Some elements of them are suitable also for disabled persons and the deaf and dumb.
