Welcome to the Sixtus Forests. The Sixtus Forests cover several forests in the territories of Poperinge and Vleteren: the separate sub-areas Theetbos (15 hectares), Couthofbos and park (70 hectares), de Lovie (28 hectares), Canadabossen (16 hectares), Bardelenbos (32 hectares), Dozinghembos (38 hectares), and the forest near the Saint Sixtus Abbey (19 hectares) together form a forest cluster of 220 hectares.
Since 1990, the Agency for Nature and Forest has been purchasing land to allow the Sixtus Forests to regrow. Currently, the ANB manages about 91 hectares. This does not consist of a continuous forest area, but rather a patchwork of dozens of plots that are connected to each other. For the purpose of landscape and nature development, not all lands are reforested: there is also space for 2.5 hectares of fruit and seed orchards, and for about four hectares of meadow.
