Fallen tree

On the fallen tree you will find numerous species of fungi. The tinder fungus or tinder fungus is one of them. The tinder fungus owes its name partly to the fact that its meat is often used for the manufacture of tinder. Tinder or tinder is the name for a highly flammable material that serves to make fire. The preparation went as follows: The fungus was first prepared, for this purpose the tube layer was first removed and the remaining part was cut into strips and dried. Then the tinder was boiled in horse urine or a saltpeter solution and dried again. This last treatment makes the tinder even more flammable. To make a fire, a strip of prepared tonder fungus was or is scraped with a sharp object, creating a fluffy material that is very suitable for ignition (annealing).
