Hunnegemstraat No.2

Single house of two bays and three storeys under a gabled roof (slate, ridge perpendicular to the street), located at the corner of Hunnegemstraat and Gasthuisstraat. The corner building presumably dates from the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century. It is said that the building served as the former residence of the priest and later director of the nearby priory of Hunnegem. The building was sold in 2010 to the OCMW of Geraardsbergen.

The neo-traditional stepped gable with decorative anchors and andesite coping stones has a facade of red brick in stretcher bond with flush joints, alternated with cemented string courses on a cemented base with a segmental arch-shaped basement opening. Window openings with andesite dripstones and preserved wooden frames. The rectangular two-light window with andesite mullion on the ground floor has an andesite lintel and is equipped with a relieving arch of alternating brick and cemented stone. The segmental and round-arched windows on the first and second floors respectively have cemented imitation stone blocks and an architrave of alternating brick and cemented stone; the parapets are filled with decorative masonry of red brick. Shoulder-arch door openings with andesite lintel and relieving arch of alternating brick and cemented stone. Wooden door with central light and door grille, transom filled with stained glass from rectangular panes of structured glass. To the left in the door opening is a doorbell, and to the right in the plinth is a connection to the water network.

The side façade on Gasthuisstraat is covered with eternit slate.

Dating: fourth quarter of the 19th century, before WW I.

Recognized as architectural heritage 'Town House' since 28-11-2013.
