Parallel road to Veurs

The road to the presbytery of Sint-Pieters-Voeren, once past the building, turns into a semi-paved footpath that runs eastwards. The road leads up and then largely follows the plateau edge between fields, meadows and orchards with hawthorn hedges. Along the road are scattered some wood edges. At the highest point, the road joins a footpath that starts at St. Anne's Chapel. The road continues parallel to this footpath and descends the plateau and then ends at a road cross on the road to Dal. From the road there are open views of the valley of the Veurs and the surrounding meadows and fields. This footpath forms the historical connection between the center of Sint-Pieters-Voeren and the parish church and Veurs, following the edge of the plateau. On a surveyor's map from 1780, this street is referred to as 'straet gaende van 't heijligen huisken naer Veurs'. The hill on which these roads meet is called 'Den Doede Man'. Presumably this church road was also used as a corpse road. The parallel road from Veurs may have been created later as an alternative route for the northern footpath, in function of better (seasonal) passability. The name Vogelsang refers to a meadow along which this road passes.
