Bruggestraat no. +163. Water tower from 1967 in the hamlet of Berg-op-Zoom on one of the highest points of Torhout. This tower, with a polygonal floor plan and capacity of 1200 m³, is very iconic. Type B1/B: closed base, column type where the tub part is the same width as the foot part. Built to supply increasing population with city water. Previously supplied from our own well or public pump. Built in light brown brick above high cemented plinth finished with false joints. The corners are accentuated by plastered imitation corner chains. Vertical construction emphasized by placing seven windows on top of each other every two side surfaces. At the top there is a balustrade with a walkway. Above it is a concrete tread with fencing. The whole is crowned with a turret. MESTDAGH M., Torhout. The history of a city, Torhout, 2000, p. 193. VAN CRAENENBROECK W. (ed.), Unity in diversity. Water Towers in Belgium, Brussels, 1991, p. 69-70, 183.
