Brewery De Brabander

Located at the corner with Vlaszakstraat. Former brewers' house of the De Brabander family until the brewery ceased operations during the interwar period (1928). Later temporarily converted into a drinking establishment and rendezvous house "La Joie de Vivre" (1947-1948), now a private residence with a deep backyard. Adjacent to the street is a detached mansion, at least dating back to the early 19th century, significantly enlarged on the back facade in the second half of the 19th century (1887 and 1893 according to the land register archive). The front facade (east) faces the adjacent buildings of the former associated Saint-Joseph brewery. Front garden with iron access gate and fencing. Wide double house of seven bays and two stories under a gabled roof (artificial slates). Brick construction with plaster removed during renovation work (late 20th century) from the front facade and restoration. List facade with two rows of tall rectangular windows with wooden frames and shutters. Upper windows on a hard stone string course. Double rectangular front door with gridded sidelights (recently added tracery in the transom light). Accentuating hard stone door surround with pilaster-form verticals and a covering cornice. Front facade delineated by a wooden cornice on brackets. Two round-arched attic windows in both side gables. Tower-like closed extension against the back facade under a small hipped roof with recessed panels and blind walls. Deep backyard partially enclosed by a mixed hedge, wooded and with wavy relief.
