On the highest point of Flemish Brabant on the Kesterheide in Gooik is a heartwarming spot:
"the Pervivo Park".
This Pervivo park is an initiative of Boks vzw and it was realized in collaboration with the municipality of Gooik.
It is always accessible.
You will find trees that represent children and adults who have died of a metabolic disease.
Name tags are silent witnesses of their losing battle.
A monument with children playing hide-and-seek between oak beams reaching for a distant world symbolizes the deeper meaning of the park: "This is where our children live on." The monument was created through a collaboration between the artists Albrecht Nees and †André De Baere.
This unique Pervivo site will also be the focal point for the commemorative days organised by the non-profit organisation "I live on".
It is a wonderful place to be. Come and have a look and let yourself be carried away by the interplay of unique views, a fascinating cloudy sky, nameplates, trees and a monument.
high
on a hill
play children
of stone
hide and seek
with tight faces
they are standing
behind columns
made of wood
that reach for the heavens
thereabout
Fifty-three saplings
Fifty-three sweet names
Fifty-three times lost battle
Precious piece of land
of hope
