Castle Hontzocht

Castle known as "Hontzocht". Castle built in 1938 by architect Maurice Vermeersch (Bruges) on behalf of Baron Paul de Giey-Parmentier. It is said to be a copy of the burnt-down castle Hontzocht of the de Giey family in Lembeek near Halle (Brabant). The only reference to the castle in Lembeek is the street name Hontzochtsesteenweg. The castle is situated on a large wooded estate, bounded on the east by the E40 and on the west by Blommeke street. The estate exhibits a typical checkerboard pattern and is intersected by paths. The castle is built in a historicist style and designed as a water castle. Located within a rectangular rampart. Accessible via an arched bridge, provided on both sides with a brick parapet. The buildings with residential function are located in the south, the inner courtyard is centrally located, on the east side is the gatehouse, and on the north side is an arcade adjacent to the so-called chapel. Anchored brick construction, originally painted white. Use of sandstone for the frame constructions. Irregular floor plan formed by the bay windows and tower volumes. Interior. The interior was only visited on the ground floor. The rooms are decorated with reused materials presumably from the original Hontzocht castle in Lembeek.
