"The brass baptismal fonts come from the ancient baptistery of the City, where they were placed at the beginning of the 12th century. For a long time accredited to the goldsmith Renier de Huy, they are considered to be one of the seven wonders of Belgium. Erected outside the City walls this ancient collegiate church, characteristic of the imposing Ottonian style, was constructed in coal sandstone, from the end of the 11th century (the cheviot) to the last years of the 12th century (an impressive structure with twin towers rebuilt in the Rhenish style in 1876). During the 18th century two naves were added, the massive occidental structure was pierced with a Neo-classic gate and the interior was decorated in French Baroque. The interior of this colossal occidental structure is currently undergoing restoration work in the original Roman style."
