Zuidstation is a station of the Brussels metro and premetro located in the municipality of Sint-Gillis. The station is connected to the train station Brussels-South. The Zuidstation metro station was inaugurated on October 2, 1988, with the opening of metro line 2 between Zuidstation and Simonis. Since December 3, 1993, the metro station has also been served by trams coming from the North-South axis. Before the opening of the station, the tram only had an above-ground stop at the tunnel entrance in the Overdekte street. This stop, built in 1957, is still used today by tram lines 32, 81, and 82.
