The exploration starts at Brussels Midi station, which lies on the boundary between the municipalities of Saint-Gilles and Anderlecht. In 1989, the government wanted to make Brussels accessible by high-speed train. A terminal for Thalys and the Eurostar was added at Brussels Midi station. In order to receive the tens of thousands of extra passengers, the central walkway under the platforms was comprehensively redesigned: the walls were demolished, opening up space for catering outlets and shops. On the Anderlecht side of the station lies the district of Cureghem. Here, the station was widened by approximately 15 metres, with part of Rue de France disappearing to allow the construction of the Eurostar check-in and a new shopping arcade.
