The hall church, which has been frequently renovated and expanded over the years, has preserved a tower made of Tournai limestone from the 13th century. It is a Gothic square crossing tower. The church experienced the Iconoclasm in the 16th century. The chapter of Tournai, to which the church belonged, carried out significant repairs in 1753. The northern side facade in red brick, dating from this period, contrasts with the southern side facade, which was previously built in gray fieldstone. The new west facade and the extension of the church date from 1850 and were designed by architect L. Roelandt.
Its location near the Schipdonk Canal caused damage during both World Wars. The repairs after World War I and the rebuilding of the tower were carried out under the direction of architect Valentin Vaerwyck, who also designed the town hall of Zomergem.
The three naves are of equal height and width and consist of six bays. The pulpit is from 1868 (P.J. De Cuyper).
