This ancient straight mining gallery, which extends 1.5 km in length, was carved in the mid-19th century into the rock, beneath the current Robermont cemetery. It was intended to allow the exploitation of coal veins, which, however, had been the subject of extraction activities for much longer. Besides its archaeological value, the site has significant geological, seismic, and biological interest, as it houses several cave-dwelling species.
Public Access: Access to the gallery is regulated: only visits for scientific and educational purposes are allowed, and only with the agreement of the site's management committee. No tourist exploitation is tolerated there.
