Agauche wetland

The so-called Agauche wetland covers just over 5 hectares on the outskirts of the village of Bioul, in the Condroz of the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse, four kilometers as the crow flies from the Meuse valley. This communal land is traversed from west to east by the Bioul stream, a small tributary of the Burnot, and was formerly occupied by a poplar plantation. At present, spontaneous vegetation has recolonized the area, with a largely open central sector punctuated by bushes and a wooded crown, resulting in a particularly welcoming heterogeneous structure for biodiversity. The site is located outside the Natura 2000 network and does not have any protective status. However, the municipality of Anhée is determined to implement favorable management measures for certain species such as the crested newt (Triturus cristatus), found in the vicinity.
