In the midst of the fields between Kontich and Waarloos stands the castle Tanghof. Originally, there was a farm at this location in the 15th century, surrounded by marshland. In the 18th century, the castle was further expanded by the renowned architect Jan Peter van Baurscheit. You may know him from the royal palace and the Osterrieth House on the Meir in Antwerp. This man adapted the castle to the fashion of that time, the Rococo style. A French garden and a moat were also immediately constructed. During the Peasants' War, Tanghof was the local headquarters of the rebels against the French. This castle is now privately owned but can be partially seen from the street.
