Nature reserve Leeuwenhof

At the end of 1998, Natuurpunt was given the management of this more than 7 ha sand extraction pit. The breeding birds of the Leeuwenhof include dodaars, grebe, mallard, slobber, squatter, crested duck, mountain duck coot, moorhen, fish thief, black-headed gull, lesser plover, oystercatcher, kingfisher, shore swallow, grasshopper, fitis, bush warbler and warbler. There are still a whole range of species in the breeding season that do not breed or breed just outside the area: partridge, yellow wagtail, kestrel, green woodpecker, cormorant and blue heron. During the migration periods you can expect species such as ordered grebe, black tern, porridge, robin and waders such as white hole and sandpiper. In winter there are significant numbers of diving ducks. Especially crested and table ducks, but regularly also spectacled diver, topper duck, nun, large merganser and crowned duck. The lake can be viewed from the viewing wall that can be reached from the Beekstraat. Every first Saturday of February and June, Natuurpunt gives a guided walk around the lake.
