In 1327 there was already mention of the bridge of "Martinwez" in the first record of the so-called "freedoms" or city rights of the village. The French dynamited the bridge on May 11, 1940, in an attempt to slow down the advance of the German troops. The current bridge dates from 1953. The pillars have been reinforced upstream with concrete bumpers to break the drifting ice floes.
