More than one million British soldiers are thought to have died in WWI. Today just over one thousand British soldiers and airmen are buried in the cemetery in Dadizele. The number of deaths during WWI was tragically high, and at the end of the war this number was made even higher not only by the final offensive, but by the outbreak of an epidemic of Spanish flu.
