On April 8, 2011, the artwork 'Le vent souffle où il veut' by the French artist Daniel Büren was installed at Kromme Hoek. Since then, everyone can enjoy the unique and colorful view: walkers and cyclists along the harbor channel and at Kromme Hoek, as well as the crew of the boats that navigate in and out of the channel. Those who walk among the masts get a completely different view of the artwork. The imposing installation, consisting of one hundred flagpoles with as many weather vanes, was one of the highlights of Beaufort03 and was displayed on the beach of De Haan at that time. With this work, Büren aimed to create a forest where children can play and walkers can linger. He chose ten different colors from the RAL spectrum and had them mounted on the poles in alphabetical order: dark blue to purplish red to meadow green. All artworks by Daniel Büren are so-called in-situ works: they are created in response to or in relation with their surroundings. The artwork 'Le vent souffle où il veut' only comes into its own outdoors; the weather vanes come to life in the wind, and the forest can only be planted outside.
