Watermill Good in Walskerke

The only remaining water mill in West Flanders can be found in Anzegem. It dates back to the 15th century and belongs to the farm Ter Walskerke. The miller is happy to receive groups of interested visitors by appointment. Since 1983, the mill has been protected as a monument.

Water mills are very rare in the region because they had to make way for the straightening and canalization of the Leie. A functioning water mill is truly unique.

The Hof Ter Walskerke already has a water mill in the 15th century - it primarily grinds grain. The current building dates from the 18th century, and the metal waterwheel dates from 1907. Since 1900, the buildings have been owned by the Welfare Bureau of Harelbeke, now the OCMW. In 1995, the mill was thoroughly restored, and in 2011, a few smaller repairs followed.

Until the first half of the 20th century, the water mill was still used to generate electricity. Now it mainly operates as a demonstration when groups come to visit. The miller has another important task: to regulate the water level in the Maalbeek with the sluices and gates associated with the mill.

Every Sunday morning, the wheel turns freely for the numerous passing cyclists.
