The textile company Manta in Waasmunster produced blankets, mops and dishcloths and dusters.
In the period 1950 - 1970, the company was successful nationally and internationally with its Sole Mio blankets.
The blue dyed fabrics for the North African Tuaregs also came from here.
In 1930, the company Alexis Roos & Cie. was taken over by H. De Lovinfosse, son-in-law of Alexis Roos. At that time, the Lovinfosse already had the company Manta in Opwijk. In the 1950s, Manta had up to 1,200 workers and employees in Waasmunster. At its peak, Manta had several factories, including one in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. Gradually, things go downhill for Manta. The company is hit hard by, among other things, the rise of duvets. By the end of the 1970s, the company had only about 600 employees.
Unfortunately, the company no longer exists. From one day to the next, the workers were no longer allowed in the workshops.
The old factory buildings were demolished and had to make way for an SME zone.
