Chapel Lorette

The Lorette Chapel or Chapel of Our Lady of Loreto is a chapel in the Flemish Ardennes on the south slope of the Music Mountain, in the Ice Mill Street near the Music Forest in the Belgian town of Ronse. The chapel was built in 1676 by the then pastor of the Saint Martin parish, Christophe De le Tenre, on land given by farmer Hermes Haustraete. This allowed the faithful to attend mass on Sundays without having to go to Ronse. The brick chapel with a sandstone base is a rectangular building with a small choir. The gabled roof is covered with slates. During the French Revolution, the chapel was sold to a local farmer, who used the building as a barn. Several families bought the building from the farmer in the early 19th century. Since 1922, the building has been reopened. The annual Fiertel stops there, and the annual novena of the Annunciation of Mary is still held there. Since 1947, the chapel has been protected as a monument.
