The Pavilion of Tervuren was a summer residence built between 1817 and 1823 in the Park of Tervuren for the Prince of Orange and his wife Anna Paulowna of Russia, according to the plans of Charles Vander Straeten. After the Belgian Revolution, it was confiscated by the Belgian State and came into the possession of the Belgian monarchy. From 1867, it was permanently inhabited by Charlotte of Belgium, former Empress of Mexico. It was destroyed by fire in 1879. In 1897, the Colonial Palace was erected on the same site.
