Queen Astrid Military Hospital was put into service in 1981. It is a fine example of relocating an institution from downtown to the outskirts for accessibility reasons by car. The hospital houses one of the most modern and largest burn centers in Europe.
During the coronavirus crisis in 2020-21, the hospital was used as a vaccination center.
