The Calvary Hill or Way of the Cross of Andenne is located on the hill in the heart of old Andenne. The chapel is said to have been built in the 17th century after an epidemic. Along the winding path, there are six chapels that are believed to have been built between 1630 and 1653. The chapel dates from 1732. For centuries, the Way of the Cross was well maintained. In both 1818 and 1913, the municipality subsidized the necessary repairs. In that last year, the chapels were adorned with paintings by the local artist Charles Bonhivers. Today, they have disappeared. Over the following years, the place declined and the path became almost impassable. Since 2009, the city has developed a phased project, and since 2020, the Way of the Cross and the chapel have been beautifully restored. During this work, the chapel was dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt a few meters from its original location.
From Calvary Hill, you have a breathtaking view over the old neighborhoods of the city and the Meuse Valley. The current panoramic table was placed on a German air defense bunker from World War II.
