Almost at the end of 'rue La Vaulx' stands a small house whose half-timbering is completely hidden behind the freshly painted white wooden cladding. Only the slanted walls suggest that the house dates back to earlier times and is not a modern architectural achievement. It dates from the end of the 17th century and was the property of the carpenter Jean Vinette. The sharp gable points to a former thatched roof, which had to be so steep to quickly drain the rainwater.
On January 16, 1797, the house would witness a small popular uprising. The French occupier had, much to the discontent of the residents of Malmedy, prohibited all church rituals. However, when Marie-Thérèse Vinette, the daughter of Jean, was very ill and needed to receive the last sacraments, this did not happen in secret. The anger of the population was so great that they organized a procession to the house with the pastor at the forefront. The crowd formed a protective circle around the house as Marie-Thérèse received the sacraments. Afterwards, everyone returned to their daily activities.
When the house was fully restored in 2001, a small viewing museum was also established. It is said to be the smallest museum in the world. Through the window, you can see Marie-Thérèse on her deathbed in a period interior. A button on the outer wall allows you to illuminate the scene.
